Ross Z. Keefer, Sr.

Ross Zacharias Keefer, Sr., age 85 of Shippensburg, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Thursday, March 31, 1932 in Shippensburg, the son of the late Owen and Alice (Leedy) Keefer. Ross "Shorty" was a graduate of Shippensburg High School class of 1951 where he was a star athlete of basketball, baseball and football. He started his career delivering ice and milk for Miller Reed Dairy, then Lance Foods and eventually went into long haul truck driving. Ross and Pat enjoyed building birdhouses which turned into a family owned business, Rustic Birdhouses. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his children, Catherine E. Keefer of Chambersburg, Christine E. Peace (George) of Harrisburg, Connie E. Meslener (Michael) of Lewisburg, Cindy E. Tosten (Tim) of Shippensburg, and Owen R. Keefer (Barbara) of Newville, his brother, Les Keefer and his sister, Grace Miller. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Traci Jo, Jennifer, Marcus, Shandi, Zach, Beth and Julie, great-grandchildren, Brady, Dalton, Owen Jared, Alexander, Caleb, Isaiah, Seeley, and Shay and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Forsythe) E. Keefer, son, Ross Z. "Bo" Keefer, Jr., and numerous brothers and sisters. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Ridge Church of the Brethren, 1095 Ridge Road, Shippensburg with Pastor/Neighbor Harvey Reiff officiating. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM at the church until time of services.
