Sara J. Gilbert

Sara “Janie” J. Gilbert, age 81, of Shippensburg, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Chambersburg Hospital. She was born March 31, 1938 in Greene Township, PA, the daughter of the late Daniel and Mariam (Vanscyoc) Kaufman. Before her retirement, Sara worked as a store clerk for K-Mart. In her spare time, “Janie” enjoyed cooking, baking and reading her magazines, romance novels and newspaper articles. She is remembered as a devoted wife to her husband, loving grandmother to her grandkids and a caring cat owner. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Merle W. Gilbert of Shippensburg, one son, Matthew Gilbert of Shippensburg, two daughters, Heidi Gilbert of Shippensburg and Aimee Rosenberry and her husband, Randy of Fayetteville, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one sister, Edwina Devore of Walnut Bottom. In addition to her parents, Sara is preceded in death by her brother, Jack Kaufman and sister, Patricia Carotto. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Memorial Services are at the discretion of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sara’s name to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road W, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
