Shelvie Jean Beam

Shelvie Jean Beam, age 88, of Newville, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Carlisle.

She was born on May 13, 1938, in Carlisle, a daughter of Ivan and Bertha (Gardner) Rickrode. On January 17, 1957, she married Carl Cletus Beam and together they spent 68 loving years together before his passing on December 29, 2024. She was a school cook for the elementary school district in Carlisle. She enjoyed gambling, fairs, meat raffles and day trips.

She is survived by her children, Kim Keiter (Richard Howe) of Gardners and Robert Beam (Al Smith) of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Janelle Scott, Kelly Updegraff; three greatgrandchildren, Taylor Rice, Nolan and Hunter Updegraff; sister, Irene Dawson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Bertha; her husband, Carl; siblings, Raymond Rickrode, Rick William Rickrode, Elmer Rickrode, Glen Rickrode, Ruth Spangler and Ethel Stoner.

Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 S. Main Street, Bendersville, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 10:00 AM. A viewing will be held from 9:00 AM until time of funeral service. Reverend Richard Reese will officiate the funeral. Shelvie will be laid to rest at Goodyear Cemetery.
