Shirley K. Anderson

Shirley Kough Anderson, age 90 of Newburg, passed away in the early morning of June 27, 2025. She was born May 18, 1935 in Carlisle to the late Jacob and Ruth (Beecher) Kough.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by 3 sisters (Addessa, Pearl, and Lyrian) and one brother (Karl). She is survived by her husband, Irvin (Dick) Anderson, and 2 sons, Richard (Rick) and his wife Lori, of Maryland, and Roger (Rusty) and his wife Laurie, of Texas. Shirley also leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Amie, Ryan, Colin, Alaina, and Zachary (Zack), as well as 3 great-grandchildren: Ira, Ezra, and Emily.

Shirley was as fierce and feisty as they come. A lover of books, coffee, animals (live and plushie), and junk food, even as the years ticked off, she remained quite young at heart. Shirley was always ready to try to beat you at Jeopardy, attempt an experimental recipe in the kitchen, or go on an “adventure”, whether that be a walk, a drive, or just a trip to the store. She was never afraid to get her hands dirty or be silly, and she had this amazing ability to make the ordinary extraordinary. Shirley will be sorely missed, but lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
