Shirley M (Heller) Cashman passed peacefully at home in Arendtsville, PA, Tuesday, February 11th, 2025. Shirley was born on February 17, 1938 in Menallen Township. She was the beloved daughter of the late Elmer H. Heller and Virgie M. (Beamer) Heller. She was the widow of Robert (Bob) H. Cashman, whom she married on September 14th, 1957. At the time of Bob’s passing, they were married for 54 years.
Shirley was a graduate of Biglerville High School, Class of 1956. Upon graduation she worked at the Biglerville Telephone Exchange. From there she worked at the famous Distelfink Bakery and Drive-In, where she was a baker making many wonderful baked goods. She then worked, and retired after 25 years, at the Arendtsville Elementary Cafeteria as the manager. She was known for running a very spotless kitchen and her baked macaroni & cheese was loved by all.
After retirement, Bob and Shirley took over the sexton position of their church, Zion UCC. They took great pride in caring for the church and treated it just as they did their own home, spotless and not a thing out of place. Shirley also served on many committees at the church and was Altar Guild Chair for many years.
During her retirement years, she traveled with Bob and other friends throughout the United States and took several cruises. One of their most memorable trips was seeing the Panama Canal. She was a member of a Pokeno Club, which included many lovely ladies. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, gardening, word search puzzles and watching game shows.
She leaves behind her daughter, Kendra L. (Cashman) Redding and her husband Sam, her beloved grandson, Joel T. Redding and wife Sarah. Joel and Sarah were her everything and she always enjoyed hearing about their travels and what their next adventure was going to be. Whether it be raising bees, chickens, growing mums or pumpkins, and she enjoyed helping and supervising them when planting the mums every year. She also loved her grand-pups, River and Moose. There were always treats in her car for them. Her love for her family will be missed.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Kay (Cashman) Luse and Kathy (Stoner) Cashman, who were so faithful in visiting her. In addition, Shirley is survived by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Glenn & Paul “Sam” Heller and sister, Marvel (Heller) Kump.
