Shirley Ogburn

April 20, 1943 — May 4, 2026

Gettysburg

Shirley Davis Ogburn, age 83, entered into God’s eternal care on May 4, 2026 at Concordia at SpiriTrust Gettysburg. She was born April 20, 1943, in the village of Latimore as she was the daughter of the late Harold S. Davis and Janet L (Group) Davis. Shirley is survived by her brother Greg and his wife, Dr. Abby Davis, of Hershey and her two sisters-in-law, Linda Davis, of Dillsburg, and Lynn Davis, of Smithfield, VA. She is also survived by her two precious nieces (with whom she has spent a lot of enjoyable time) – Dr. Kristi Lynch, Captain Ian Lynch, their son, Alexander Scott Lynch, and their daughter, Kennedy Maxine Lynch, of Stafford, VA and Kylee Davis of Smithfield, VA.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Wayne, and three brothers, Robert, Douglas and Harold.

She was a 1960 graduate of York Springs High School, a 1964 graduate of Gettysburg College, where she received a B.A. degree, and a 1973 graduate of Shippensburg College, where she received a master’s in education degree.

She retired from Bermudian Springs School District in 1995, after completing 31 years of teaching in the elementary school. She continued to perform volunteer work there for many years after her retirement. She also tutored for several years at the Middle School. She was later known as the “Apple Lady” by many students as in her volunteer years she taught a unit on Adams County apples each fall in a first-grade classroom. She dearly loved teaching and she never stopped attending the various Eagles sporting events.

After retirement, along with volunteering at school, she also worked for 12 years part time at Wendy’s of Dillsburg, which was always on her bucket list. She volunteered for many years at the food pantry at both Chapel Hill Church of God & Centenary United Methodist (UM) Church in Biglerville. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for several years for the York Springs Senior Center. She truly loved being with people.

She was a member of the Gettysburg Chapter of Eastern Star and YOSSHS.
