Steven L. Asper

Steven L. Asper, age 61 of Mechanicsburg, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Friday, July 6, 1956 in Chambersburg, a child of Glenn S. Asper, of Huntingdon, and the late Dorothy Phyllis (Plasterer) Asper. He was a graduate of Shippensburg Area High School in 1974. He was a passionate musician and excelled at playing the guitar in his band, Axtress. In later years he switched genre's from Rock-N-Roll to country music covering classic and outlaw country music, which he performed at various venues with his wife and son. He was an avid angler, winning the national Stripe-o-Rama tournament in 1987 with his father, brother, nephew and good friends. As his health declined, he took up tinkering with R/C aircraft and had a collection of over 18 aircraft. He also took up astronomy and birding as his outdoor activities. He would marvel and observe the natural world. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Maureen Asper, children, Aleesha Asper, Bryan Asper (Natalie), Tyler Griffin (Heather), Ryan Griffin (Ashley) and Brenna Griffin (Nick), grandchildren, Eliza and Emma. He is also survived by his brothers, Glenn (Doris) and Roger (Sandy), a large loving extended family, and his constant furry companions, Trigger and Riley. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A viewing will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Monday, January 22 at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, 327 W. Winding Hill Road, Mechanicsburg, with Deacon Jack Paruso officiating. A viewing will also be held on Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to traveling to the cemetery.
