Stuart Gill Day

July 17, 1957 — September 30, 2019

Stuart Gill Day, age 62 of Dry Run, PA died September 30th, 2019. “Gill”, as he was known to all, was preceded in death by his wife, Tammy Lindsey Day, and his parents, Wilson Keller Day and Patricia Wilhelm Day. He is survived by his daughters, Megan Day, of Chambersburg, PA and Sarah Day, of Dry Run, PA. His three grandchildren: Ava Wimberley, Ahneeya Wimberley and Barrett Hill. Gill is also survived by his four siblings: Keller Day, and wife Leslie, of Dunkirk, MD, Leslie Day Poran, and husband David of Front Royal, VA, Andy Day, and wife Tressia, of Spring Run, PA and Stacey Day Runk of Dry Run, PA. Gill was born in Baltimore, MD on July 17th, 1957. He spent his early childhood in Mt Airy, MD and then moved to Path Valley in Franklin County PA where he attended and graduated from Fannett-Metal High School in Willow Hill, PA in 1975. Gill always had a strong work ethic, and in his early years, became a skilled butcher. He also spent time administrating his family’s nursing homes and licensed personal care homes. Gill finally found his calling in the food / restaurant management industry. Gill worked for years at The Copper Kettle restaurant in Chambersburg, PA, The Anthiem House restaurant, The American Legion Dry Run, PA and The Chambersburg Club. He also had lead management roles in the fast-casual segment with Burger King and Fuddruckers. It’s hard to put into words the impact that our Gill had on the people around him. He was a sweet and loving father and husband. He was a devoted friend and a fantastic brother. Gill was naturally funny. He was a skilled story-teller with impeccable timing, wonderfully animated and tinged with slapstick. It was not uncommon for those around him to laugh so hard their bellies would hurt and the tears would be rolling down their cheeks. Gill was compassionate, kind to animals, the elderly, children, and all who met him. He was a great dancer and would cut the rug at weddings and celebrations with anyone who would dance with him. In a world that often leans towards aggression and a sense of “everyone out for themselves” Gill was exactly the opposite. Gill would actually give the shirt off of his back and was so incredibly good-natured and joyful to be around. To know him was truly to love him. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. A “Celebration of Life” luncheon will be held for family and friends to celebrate Gill’s life on Saturday, November 2 from 12 noon to 3:00 PM at the American Legion, Post 232 in Dry Run, PA. All are welcome.
