Thomas M. Mickel -- father, brother, and friend -- of Shippensburg, PA, passed away suddenly on March 9, 2017, at age 81. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Paulette J. Mickel. He is survived by his son, Jason T. Mickel and wife Bethany of Staunton, VA; his sister, Cheryl (Mickel) Macak of Newburg, PA; his brother, Ronald Mickel of Altoona, PA; his brother, Wayne Mickel of Ronks, PA and a number of caring nephews, nieces, neighbors, and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard, James, and Darryl, as well as a half-brother Harold. Tom was born in Shenandoah, PA, but he lived most of his life in Altoona, PA, where he graduated from the Altoona Area High School. He served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1964. Ultimately, he retired from Keystone Financial Bank (Mid-State) in 1997 after several decades of service as a teller and branch manager. In 1999, he and his wife moved to Shippensburg, PA. Tom was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Altoona Curve baseball teams, and while in Altoona, he was an active member of the Greenwood Lions Club. For the vast majority of his marriage, he was a devoted caregiver to his wife who lived with Multiple Sclerosis for over forty years. His kind heart and generosity was always felt by those around him. Arrangements are being made through Dugan Funeral Home in Shippensburg, PA, and a celebration of life gathering will be held for family and friends in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a small donation to a charitable organization of your choice.
