Vergie R. Keefer

Vergie R. "Birdie or Gram" Keefer, age 89 of Horse Valley, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab in Chambersburg, surrounded by her family. She was born Saturday, November 3, 1928 in Freestone, Franklin County, the daughter of the late Lawrence J. "Baldy" and Lucy (Leedy) Keefer. Vergie was a homemaker most of her life. She was “Gram” to everybody. She loved her cats and she enjoyed going for walks in the mountain. George Jones was her favorite musician. She is survived by one son, Gary L. and wife Jacqueline Keefer of Upper Strasburg, three granddaughters, Traci and husband Kevin Henry of Chambersburg, Tonia Keefer and companion Kelly James of Upper Strasburg, Terri and husband Sam Poper of Chambersburg, five great-grandchildren, Rachelle, Wyatt, Bryce and Daryn Poper and Blaire Henry, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Miley, Dessie Helm, Dorothy Clough, Stella Johnson and one brother, Melvin Keefer. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Shippensburg. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 16, at Dugan Funeral Home and Crematory, 51 Asper Drive, Shippensburg with Reverend Reuben Egolf officiating. Interment will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
