Virginia C. Barbour, age 87 of Gardners, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at her home. She was born Friday, January 13, 1931 in West Orange, NJ, the daughter of the late James M. and Margaret P. (Coleman) McCarthy. Virginia graduated from Biglerville High School in 1948. She was formerly employed by Knouse Foods for over 30 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Goodyear, where she sang in the church choir and served on the church council. She taught Sunday School to the elementary school children and Vacation Bible School. She was art director of the South Mountain Fair Art Exhibits. She enjoyed all styles of painting and was an avid gardener. Refinishing furniture, decoupage and making pinecone wreaths were just some of her hobbies. She also caned chairs and enjoyed putting puzzles together. Her husband, J. Kenneth Barbour passed away in 2011. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy C. Prosser of Camp Hill, a son, James S. and wife Christine Barbour of Carlisle, two grandsons, David Knight and James D. and wife Rebecca Prosser, a granddaughter, Jody and husband Michael Keller, great-grandchildren, Taylor Williams, Eddie and wife Stephanie Keller, Jenna Keller, Kara and husband Heston Scott, Seth Richwine, Ryan Keller, and Michaela Long, great-great-grandchildren, Gabby Loeb, Aubrey Keller, Weston Keller, Cheyanne Scott, and one sister, Patricia Rice of Carlisle, two brothers, James McCarthy of Blairsville, GA and David McCarthy of Plant City, FL, and best friends, Dorothy Koontz and Judy Barbour. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret (Peggy) Herring and brothers, Thomas, Gerald, and Michael McCarthy. Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 29 at Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4200 Carlisle Road, Gardners with Reverend David Clark officiating. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery, Arendtsville. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Dugan Funeral Home and on Thursday at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of services.
