Virginia Rose Surplus

Virginia “Jean” Rose Surplus, age 101, of Biglerville, PA passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at her home in Biglerville. She was born December 27, 1923, in Milmont Park, PA, as the daughter of the late Sebastiano and Concetta (Santo) Cafra.

She worked in textiles in her early years, worked as a welder for Westinghouse during WWII in support of the war effort and later married and became a homemaker for her husband and seven children. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed sewing, gardening and the outdoors, and traveling with her husband. At the age of 90, Jean could be seen splitting logs for her wood burning fireplace!

Jean is survived by her seven loving children, Lloyd D. Surplus of Hudson, NH, Joyce DiCristo of Glen Mills, PA, Jeannette Snyder of Hagerstown, MD, Archibald “Archie” Surplus, III and his wife, Susan of West Grove, PA, Virginia "Jeanie" R. Greenhalgh and her husband, Joe of Swarthmore, PA, David L. Surplus and his wife, Lisa of Hawthorne, NJ and Paul R. Surplus and his wife, Susan of Ridley Park, PA; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 75 years, Archibald Surplus, Jr.
