Vivian J. Raffensperger, age 91 of Biglerville, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Village of Laurel Run in Fayetteville. She was born Monday, April 23, 1923 in Scottdale, PA, the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Wray) Ruth. Vivian graduated from East Huntington High School in 1942. She then attended Wilson College. T.B. Woods in Chambersburg formerly employed her. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Gettysburg, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She also volunteered at the church food bank and was involved in child evangelism. She was a former Girl Scout Troop Leader in Biglerville for over fifty years, in which she also served as a camp counselor at Happy Valley Girl Scout Camp for many years. She was a member of Appalachian Trail Association and logged many miles hiking and camping on the trail. Her husband, Emory E. Raffensperger who passed away in 2011, preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Robin R. Stoops of Saint Thomas, two sons, Richard D. Raffensperger of Biglerville, Ronald L. Raffensperger of Hampton, six grandchildren, Janelle Amsley, James Amsley, Benjamin Raffensperger, Rebecca McLaughlin, Kayla Raffensperger and Shannon Romney, three great-grandchildren, a brother, Frank Ruth of Mansfield, OH, and a sister, Dolores Richards of Naples, FL. Professional services have been entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, September 10 at Memorial Baptist Church, 1096 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg with Reverend Steven Baker officiating. Interment will be in Biglerville Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services. Memorial contributions may be made to Adams County Christian Academy, 1865 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
