Walter R. "Randy" Powell, age 73 of Aspers, PA, died Saturday, February 20, 2016 at home. Born Monday, April 6, 1942 in Short Gap, WV, he was the son of the late Walter B. "Ben" Powell and Helen M. (Peer) Powell, Ridgeley, WV. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jeanie K. Powell, a brother, Bennie G. Powell, and a nephew, Todd W. Powell. Randy served two years in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam era. After 38 years of employment, he retired from PPG Industries in Carlisle, PA.Being an avid hunter and fisherman, he was a long time honorary member of the Artisan Camp, Clinton County PA, and the Upper Adams Fish and Game Association, Aspers. Randy "Walter" remained active after retirement; he volunteered at Capital Area Head Start, Harrisburg, PA, the ACSPCA, Gettysburg, PA, and the Harbaugh-Thomas Library, Biglerville, PA.He was also an active member of the Upper Adams Senior Center, Biglerville, and he enjoyed his time making Easter eggs at the Wenksville United Methodist Church. Randy loved being a husband, father and grandfather, but most of all, he loved being a great grandfather.He enjoyed many camping trips with his grandchildren and their friends, who called him "Pappy". He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonnie L. (Bosley) Powell of Aspers, his daughter, Kendra D. Peterson, of Mechanicsburg, PA, his son, Kevin R. Powell, of Aspers, his two grandsons, Connor D. Powell and Brady W. Peterson, his granddaughter Corie N. Peterson and two great grandsons Zayden L. Peterson and Ryan C. Donmyer, all of Dillsburg, PA. Randy also leaves behind a sister, Virginia "Ginny" A. Clark and husband Frank, and three brothers, Paul L. Powell and wife Ann, Dennis L. Powell and wife Georgie, and George D. "Doug" Powell and wife Tammy, all of Ridgeley, and a sister-in-law, Carol L. Powell of Keyser, WV. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Randy was an enthusiastic WVU Mountaineers fan, and has donated his body to the Science Department of WestVirginia University, Morgantown, WV. Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., Bendersville is entrusted with services. There will be a memorial service at the Wenksville United Methodist Church, 2010 Wenksville Road, Biglerville at 1:00 PM on March 5, 2016. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Upper Adams Senior Center, 2950 Table Rock Road, Biglerville, PA 17307, the ACSPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325, the Harbaugh-Thomas Library, 59 W. York Street, Biglerville, PA 17307 or the Wenksville United Methodist Church, 2010 Wenksville Road, Biglerville, PA 17307.
