William Collins Hash, age 86 of Gardners, died Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born Tuesday, February 23, 1926 in Thornton, PA, the son of the late John and Ada (Poole) Hash. William attended college. He was formerly employed by Knouse Foods, Peach Glen as a supervisor for many years. He was a member of Grace Bible Chapel in Gardners. Bill enjoyed playing guitar and offered his time to play at Hickory Bridge Farms, local nursing homes and church events. He also loved working in the garden. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was present during the raising of the U.S. Flag on the island Iwojima. Bill received the Purple Heart for injuries that occurred in the Pacific Theatre. His first wife, Phyllis (Meredith) Hash died in 1988. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Clara A. (Wolford) Hash. He is also survived by his son, Jeffrey C. Hash of Clarks Summit, PA, step-son, Kenneth Wolford, Reynoldsville, OH; grandson Christopher Heller; three step-grandsons and one step-granddaughter; four sisters: Gladys Felice, Edna Falcone and Susan Plummer, all of West Chester, Janice Drucker of Malvern; two brothers: Frank Hash and John Hash both of West Chester. He was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Heller and a sister, Joan Heitzman. Professional services are being handled by Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 24 at Grace Bible Chapel, 5575 Oxford Road, Gardners, with Reverend Matthew Jury officiating. Interment will be in Idaville Cemetery, A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services.
