Obituary for Edelmira L. Garcia

Edelmira "Myra" L. Garcia, age 80 of Aspers, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born Wednesday, April 27, 1938 in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Juan and Juana R. (Martinez) Luciano.

Edelmira retired from Duffy Motts after eight years of service. She then resumed working, after the passing of her husband, at Knouse foods in Gardners for another nine years. She had also worked for Kime's Cider Mill in Bendersville and the Gettysburg and Hanover Shoe Factories. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Myra was a people person. She loved helping her friends, and loved life. She was a fantastic cook, especially her red beans and rice. She loved to crochet and work in her garden. She was very proud of her grandsons.

Her husband, Jose D. Garcia passed away May 4, 2006. She is survived one daughter, Maria E. Rodriguez of Bronx, NY, two sons, Jose A. Rodriguez of Aspers, Luis A. Rodriguez of Harrisburg, two sisters, Carmen A. Romero of Mayaguez, PR and Ada Vega, of Adjuntas, PR, one brother, Juan Martinez of Adjuntas, PR, three grandsons, Nicolas A. Rodriguez of Brooklyn, NY, Marc A. Rodriguez of Greensburg, and Francisco A. Rodriguez of Greensburg.

Professional services are entrusted to Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., 111 South Main Street, Bendersville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 31 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 22 W. High Street, Gettysburg with Reverend Fr. John Kuchinski officiating. Interment will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 30 at Dugan Funeral Home.

The family wishes to thank the VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove Hospice for their thoughtful and compassionate care they provided to Myra, especially Melanie Gibbs, Aimee Hankey, Jennifer Murphy and her special "sunshine", Amanda Chinnick. They also wish to thank the Homebound minister from St. Francis Xavier, Pat Gannon.
